Program for the promotion of scientific and technological vocations “Flying high, combining vocations”

The program Flying high, combining vocations, a comprehensive program of activities for the promotion of scientific and technological vocations is being developed within the framework of the Civil UAVs Initiative, with the collaboration of Boeing, Indra and Babcock. Its objective is to stimulate youth interest in STEM careers.

The activities, carried out in 2019-2020 and 2020-2021, are aimed at students from primary, secondary, higher secondary school, those in vocational training and special education cycles, as well as for university students. It also includes actions open to all kinds of audiences.

The Flying high, combining vocations program is supported by the Regional Ministry of Education, Universities and Vocational Training, the National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA) and the Rozas Aeronautics Research Centre (CIAR).

El programa de Vocaciones Científicas cuenta con la activa participación de las organizaciones implicadas en la Iniciativa, quienes están realizando, o tienen planificadas, diversas actividades en el ámbito de la enseñanza reglada que se detallan en los apartados que siguen.

This workshop will show the practical side of STEM careers, through explanation, interaction and visualisation of the technological developments addressed by Babcock at the Civil UAVs Initiative. Students will visit the facilities of the Rozas Aeronautics Research Centre (CIAR), a European reference for performing tests with unmanned vehicles. They will also have the opportunity to see UAV test flights with LUA, one of Babcock’s unmanned helicopter-based aircraft systems, and watch simulations of the company’s forest fire fighting developments wearing 3D glasses.

SOWING THE FUTURE
Rozas airfield

The objective of this activity is to show how new technologies can help improve people’s daily lives. Students will be introduced to the world of aviation and drones with demonstrations in a flight simulator. Those attending this workshop will also participate in a visit to the facilities of the Rozas Aeronautics Research Centre (CIAR), a European reference for performing tests with unmanned vehicles.
